Staying safe in the storm
With warnings of bad weather over the next few days, there are some things everyone can do to prepare for a storm.
- Put away or secure items that are around your house, e.g. garden furniture, gardening tools, bins, trampolines, ladders etc.
- Close and fasten exterior doors and windows
- Park your car away from trees, fences or buildings if possible
- Close any loft trapdoors
- Make sure you know how to turn your gas, electricity and water off in case of an emergency
- Charge phones, battery packs and devices in case of a power cut
- Have some bottled water on hand in case the water supply is affected
- Keep your pets safely indoors
Be a good neighbour – keep an eye and offer to help elderly or vulnerable neighbours and contact the authorities if you think they are in danger.
Keep an eye on the latest forecasts from Met Office and Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales to see what the warnings are in your area.
If you think there is damage to your house or garden, wait until it’s safe before going out to assess.
