Grŵp Cynefin creating homes for local people on Anglesey

New houses in Bryn Du, Anglesey, will offer eight modern and comfortable homes for rent by local people. With house prices higher than the national average, there is a great demand for affordable houses in the area.

Grŵp Cynefin housing association, which owns and manages 4,800 properties across the counties of north Wales and north Powys, is working in partnership with the Isle of Anglesey County Council and the Welsh Government to develop the homes, an extension of Stad y Felin in Bryn Du, near Rhosneigr.

The social rent houses include four two-bedroom bungalows, three two-bedroom houses and one four-bedroom house. They have gardens and a parking area and are built to Welsh Government standards, using modern methods of construction with sustainability as a priority.

All homes have solar panels on their roofs, are heated by an air source heat pump and are insulated to an extremely high standard. This will save energy and, as a result, save money on energy bills.

Before developing any housing estate, detailed research is carried out with the local community to determine the exact need and what type of housing local people want to see developed.

This work is carried out by Rural Housing Enablers, administered by Grŵp Cynefin, and following a process of local engagement and consultation, it was apparent that there is a need for such houses for local people. Priority will be given to residents of Bryn Du and the surrounding area.

North Wales’ Gareth Morris Construction Ltd is responsible for building the estate.

Mel Evans, Chief Executive of Grŵp Cynefin said: “The extension to Stad y Felin responds directly to the local need for a variety of high quality, affordable homes and we are proud to be able to provide this through collaboration with Anglesey Council and the Welsh Government.

“Providing housing for local people to be able to continue living in their area is at the core of Grŵp Cynefin’s ethos, and this development in  Bryn Du is a perfect example of this. There is now an opportunity for people to apply to become tenants and make it their home.”

Ned Michael, Anglesey County Council’s Head of Housing Services said: “This latest project by Grŵp Cynefin in Bryn Du underlines our ongoing commitment to providing affordable, efficient and high-quality housing for local people across the island.

“Our Housing Strategy 2022 to 2027 plays an integral role as we work independently, and with key partners, to continue to meet the housing needs of our local residents now and in the future.”

Grŵp Cynefin and Anglesey County Council are keen to make sure that anyone interested in renting the new houses has every opportunity to register their interest.
