Local organisations benefit from Grŵp Cynefin grants

Twenty-one local organisations in Ruthin have received a financial boost as a result of the development of an extra care housing scheme in the town. They range from a cricket club and choir to a nursery and eisteddfod (full list below).

At the start of the year, housing association Grŵp Cynefin and project construction company Read Construction launched an £18,000 fund towards activities to improve communities in the area, as part of the re-development of the Llys Awelon Extra Care Housing Scheme in Ruthin. The successful organisations have already started to make good use of the money.

Cylch Meithrin Ruthin received a grant towards a special educational resource, a forest school. Cylch Meithirn Leader Kate Griffiths said:

“The children and staff at Cylch Meithrin Ruthin are extremely grateful for the generous donation from the Llys Awelon Fund. This funding goes a long way toward realising our goal of developing our forest school.

“Time in the outdoors is important to the wellbeing of children and adults as well, and this project is going to be of great benefit to the whole community.”

Eisteddfod Pwllglas recently used their grant money to host the event.

Richard Roberts, Treasurer of the Eisteddfod, said:

“We had a very successful eisteddfod, bringing people and children of all ages together. We had a young pop band and dancers side by side with traditional choirs and soloists. Events like this are so important to a Welsh community like Pwllglas, bringing generations and a range of interests together under one roof. We are very grateful for the financial boost for an event like this which relies entirely on volunteers, fundraising and sponsors.”

The development of Llys Awelon is a partnership between Grŵp Cynefin, Denbighshire County Council and Welsh Government with Read Construction re-developing the site.

Ffion Pittendreigh, Grŵp Cynefin’s Community Initiatives Manager, said.

“It’s now standard that that a major construction agreement such as the redevelopment of Llys Awelon involves investment beyond the construction site, and in the local community, through grants. It’s great to see where the money is going and the difference it makes.”
