Y Shed holds the stories of generations.

At the heart of Meliden, near Prestatyn, this old stone building has stood guardian over the village, originally serving the railway line that ran behind it, for over 100 years.

But in 2019 it was transformed and reopened into a lively hub with a café, shop, range of small businesses, and interactive history exhibitions. Y Shed also offers creative working and exhibition spaces for businesses and artisans.

Championed by charitable housing association Grŵp Cynefin and Meliden Residents’ Action Group, Y Shed offers a place for start-up businesses to find their feet, grow and thrive.

Y Shed has had a rich and varied history, but for decades, it was largely derelict.

Thanks to the hard work of local resident and Grwp Cynefin, the once-forgotten building was transformed into a vibrant hub.

It’s now central to the community, surrounded by countryside and boasting a sparkling sea view.

Y Shed supports five new businesses plus nearly 30 self-employed artisans and crafters who display their work in Y Shed’s shop where they sell everything from jewellery to local honey.

Small businesses occupy bespoke units, converted from shipping containers into modern, welcoming business premises.

All of the businesses enjoy competitive rents and receive free in-house support, including online and offline marketing.  The Y Shed team also help start-ups identify growth opportunities through entrepreneurship programmes, forums, and grants.

Alongside the businesses, we have a large award-winning, pet-friendly café.

Visitors wanting to sit back and relax or meet with friends and family can make the most of ample space both inside and out with a mezzanine offering unrivalled views out across the Irish Sea.

We also have two retail shops, an ice cream parlour, sportswear outlet, beautician and podiatrist.
